Forage.

Today I went to Forage in Silver Lake.

To be honest I have walked in there about three times and ended up walking right out. The parking can be frustrating, so after I finally find a spot and walk in, for some reason nothing catches my eye so I turn around and walk right out. My roommate recently went there and brought food home. It looked delicious and tasted great!

So today I tried again with my roommate. Turns out the food is really great!
It's a bit pricey, but you can eat healthy, delicious food from local farmers.
We both ordered a protein with 2 sides. So much flavor! I think their menu changes daily. The sandwiches look delicious, and so do the desserts. I'm sold!

The seating is right by the windows so the lighting is great.
Even someone else's trash looks good there! Haha

Breakfast Perfected.

The second post on my blog talks about my favorite Breakfast…

It's based on a version of Eggs Benedict that my friends and I had in Australia and we are all trying to recreate it because it was so delectable. None of us seem to be able to make it as yummy as the first time... until now! I think I found the answer!

It's in the bread!! Not just any bread. You have to use a Fresh Wheat Baguette and it will make all the difference!! I tried toasting store bought wheat bread and it was good, but Wow! The Fresh Baguette makes a huge difference!! Perhaps because it is a bit more dense, whatever the reason, it's delicious!

Take two Baguette slices and toast them. Meanwhile put a tiny bit of butter in a frying pan and throw in a slice or two of Turkey or Ham. Then toast the slices a bit more but with Cheese on top this time. (My favorite cheese to use is Pepper Jack. It adds a little spice. It's subtle but it makes a difference). Then fry an Egg. Sunny side up is the way to go for me, as I have not perfected the art of poaching an Egg. Slice up an Avocado, grab your Salt & Pepper and plate up! I prefer to use Fresh Ground Pepper. (You can get cute little Salt & Pepper grinders at the supermarket) It adds a bit more flavor.

Toasted Baguette, Cheese, Turkey, Avocado, Egg, Salt & Pepper!

Spicy Shrimp & Broccoli.

I found a recipe for Spicy Shrimp & Broccoli online.
It looked yummy and I wanted to try it at home.
The site is listed at the bottom of this post.
Shrimp is my favorite Protein and I am proud!
I am always looking for new ways to cook Shrimp.

I always tell people Not to do this but I'm going to do it anyway…
I am not in love with this set of pictures but I really wanted to post them. I am working on finding the best lighting in my kitchen, and well, finding the best lighting anywhere in and around my apartment. I don't always cook when there is still nice natural light, so I am in the process of figuring out the best alternative. I white balanced in my kitchen but was still not satisfied. It's a work in progress…

The recipe is simple & yummy. It calls for Shrimp, Broccoli, Cumin, Coriander,
Chili Flakes, Salt & Pepper, Olive Oil and a Lemon.
I baked the Broccoli for 20 min on 450˚ and it was nicely browned.
The shrimp is baked for 10 minutes with a flip half way.

I had never baked shrimp until this recipe.
I prefer shrimp a little on the firmer side so now I know, 10 min at 450˚done!

I was satisfied with this dish but I have to say that I think I squeezed too much
Lemon Juice on it which kind of ruined it for me. The Lemon Zest that was
mixed with the Shrimp added a perfect amount of Lemon flavor.
The recipe that I read says that the Lemon Juice is a must,
but I could have done without it :)

Overall, Yum.
Healthy and Tastey!
